Countryside volunteers

Organising volunteer parties to help carry out important jobs in Suffolk’s countryside.

The Countryside Service has several organised volunteer work parties throughout the week (not usually weekends). Volunteers are an important resource for ensuring that practical countryside work is completed.

The type of work that you can volunteer for varies depending upon your interests and your willingness to learn new skills. Typical work includes:

  • building boardwalks;
  • coppicing (trimming trees to encourage new shoots);
  • raking roadside nature reserves; or
  • surveying footpaths.

You will be trained in the use of any tools and told about health and safety at the beginning of each session and supervised throughout.

You will need to come dressed for any weather, as the work will be outdoors based, and bring a packed lunch.

A contribution towards your travel costs will be paid or a project representative will pick you up.
