Countryside management projects


Ensuring that the special environmental qualities of particular areas of Suffolk’s coast and countryside are conserved and enhanced - which includes working to increase public appreciation and opportunities for enjoyment.



Suffolk County Council have projects which deliver environmental enhancement and public access to the countryside through working in a series of partnerships with a wide range of local authorities, local community and voluntary bodies, environmental conservation interests, and government agencies.

Operations in six separate countryside management project areas help local communities to improve their local environment and provide opportunities for enjoying the countryside.

The Suffolk Coast and Heaths Unit and the Dedham Vale and Stour Valley Project operate in Suffolk’s two statutory Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs). It is a statutory duty on local authorities to produce and review a management strategy for an AONB – which sets out a 30-year vision – and to have due regard to AsONB in undertaking their functions.

The Brecks Countryside Project operates in the distinctive landscape area of north-west Suffolk and SW Norfolk.
