UK Biodiversity Action Plan review

The UK Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP), published in 1994, was the UK government's response to the signing of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in 1992. The plan sets out a programme for helping the most threatened species and habitats to recover. It was reviewed in 2007 by Natural England and a large number of species and habitats added to the list, making it necessary to revise the local county BAPs in line with this new list. Suffolk BAP review 2010

Over the past year, the Biodiversity Partnership has been revising the Suffolk list to reflect the national one. This list is now complete, and work is underway to develop new plans where necessary and revise the old ones. The review will be completed in autumn 2010. The national review has provided an excellent opportunity to revise the entire Suffolk BAP, making it more streamlined and effective in delivery. This is being achieved by: 
a) including species within habitat plans where possible.
b) developing grouped plans where appropriate i.e. for bats.
c) reflecting partner organisation's workplans.
