Education and Outreach

Suffolk’s County Council Archaeological Service employs a full time Outreach Officer to work in the community promoting the county’s heritage and developing links with organisations such as schools, youth organisations and community groups.

We provide exciting and challenging educational work that will inspire young people of all ages and abilities. Click here for more information about a visit to your school.  Our woodland centre also offers young people from schools and youth groups the chance to experience living in the past either as a day visit or as a longer residential stay, please follow the link for more information.

Our teachers’ resource link offers you free downloadable pages to support history studies in the classroom and includes lesson plans and photographs of artefacts.

We are also happy to discuss individual projects to suit schools requirements. For more information about the services we offer and our charges please contact our Outreach Officer Duncan Allan on the details above.

Volunteering Opportunities

Opportunities for volunteering on archaeological excavations as part of work experience are extremely limited owing to Health and Safety 'passports' required by most building contractors.
There are opportunities for adults aged 18+ to volunteer at our woodland centre. We also run various projects for young people aged 14-21. For more information on current projects please contact our Outreach Officer Duncan Allan on the details above.
