The overall aims of Suffolk County Council's environment functions are:

  • to care for, conserve and enhance Suffolk's outstanding environment and to provide for people's enjoyment of its heritage, including use of the rights of way network
  • to provide a safe and efficient municipal waste disposal service through waste disposal contracts and maintaining well located household waste sites, and to reduce, recycle and minimise the amount of such waste going to landfill
  • to control minerals, waste and County Council development and advise on other proposals
  • to develop environmental policies and promote environmental management in the county
