Beacon Hill School, Stone Lodge
Lane West, in Ipswich, is for pupils with complex communication
difficulties and moderate learning difficulties. Support is
provided to mainstream schools via their outreach service, which is
called Inclusive Resource. Satellites of the County Inclusive
Resource are being developed in the West and North. A
satellite is already established at Wells Hall Primary School,
Sudbury.
The aims of the service are to:
- promote high quality education for all pupils with autistic
spectrum disorders;
- promote an attitude of tolerance and understanding of autistic
spectrum disorders;
- facilitate routine and structure that provides a platform for
independent learning that reduces stress and anxiety;
- encourage strategies that actively seek to work with pupils’
interests, where appropriate;
- promote meaningful communication.
How pupils are referred to the Inclusive Resource:
- pupils must have a diagnosis of an autistic spectrum
disorder;
- parents must agree to the referral;
- referrals are made through the school’s planning meeting, in
liaison with the Educational Psychologist and Advisory Teacher for
Learning Support.
What the service provides:
- advice and support to staff from Reception to the end of Key
Stage 4;
- staff training – Teachers and Teaching Assistants;
- materials to support access to the curriculum.
