This page gives a summary of the services offered by the Learning Support Service in Suffolk.
  • The Learning Support Service is part of Suffolk County Council’s Children & Young People’s Service. It is located within the area based SEN teams.
  • The aim of the service is to raise the achievement of all children and young people with special educational needs.
  • The Learning Support Service supports schools to meet the needs of all their children and works closely with parents, families and other agencies.
  • The work of the Learning Support Service includes:
    • Consultation
    • Individual case work
    • Support for schools, including training
    • Work with other partner agencies, e.g. health
    • Statutory Assessment
    • Support for children when they change schools
  • Sandy Ranson, Senior Adviser - Inclusion and Additional Needs is the Head of Profession for this service and there are three Advisory Headteachers who manage teams based in the area offices.
  • Each team includes specialist advisory teachers, specific learning difficulties with SEN as well as advisory teachers for children with a range of learning and behavioural difficulties.  The Learning Support Service works closely with the Sensory and Communication Service and the Early Years teams to promote the best possible outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
