Encouraging opportunities for
young people in Suffolk to participate safely in school visits and
outdoor adventure activities.
The Outdoor Education Officer has the following
responsibilities:
- advising headteachers and school visits co-ordinators on the
organisation and conduct of school visits;
- approving school visits involving adventure activities;
- monitoring safe practice at local commercial or independent
centres that offer adventure activities to county schools or youth
groups;
- monitoring safe practice on school visits in the field;
- overseeing safe practice at county youth service water sports
and outdoor activity centres;
- providing guidance to schools and the youth service on the
value of outdoor and residential education and how to maximise the
benefits for the young people involved;
- providing training for school visits co-ordinators and leaders;
and
- reviewing county guidance and regulations on school visits and
adventure activities.
