Study Support
Study support activities can take place outside
normal school hours, such as breakfast clubs, lunchtime activities,
after school clubs, and weekend and school holiday projects. Study
support also gives schools the opportunity to offer their students
experiences not normally provided by the mainstream school
curriculum. At the heart of study support is the development of
skills and knowledge and confidence to try out new
opportunities.
Types of activities
SCU activities have been broken down
into six categories; active, academic, creative, culture,
nature and service with different symbols to give parents,
carers and young people a good idea as to what type of activity
they’ll taking part in.To find out more about the types of
activities that are taking place, please go to our
Activities
page.
Activity fees
SCU activities are designed to be open to
everyone, so cost should not be a barrier to being able to take
part. If cost is a barrier to participation
in an activity, some children may be eligible for financial
help to take part in activities.
Safety First
All SCU activities will be risk assessed,
provided within a safe and comfortable environment with certified
staff. In order to gain SCU accreditation, each provider has to
meet a strict level of safety in order to run SCU activities within
their venue. To find out more information about the guidelines,

Safety First
Get accredited!
All providers will receive a welcome pack that
will give full details on how to run an accredited SCU programme.
For a general overview of the programme, please go to our
Achievements
page.
- As the activity provider you will give them a
sticker for their passport then give them an attendance certificate
when they attend your course.
- Once the child receives a certain number of
stickers, the school will issue a Special Achievement
Certificate.
- You should remember that not all of
their stickers can be from the same category of SCU
activity for them to receive a Special Achievement Certificate
(this encourages them to try their hand at activities they wouldn't
normally think about doing.
We cannot accredit all activities you deliver in
one go, since your activities may differ greatly in terms of risks,
staff qualifications and training, and so on. However, the
accreditation process for additional activities will be shorter the
second time you apply.
If you deliver the same programme at different
venues around the county, you probably don’t need to get
reaccredited. However, we do need to ensure that activities are
safe and of a consistently high quality, so you should contact us
using the details in the box above to check.
