Frequently Asked Questions

When do the activities take place?

All Suffolk Children's University (SCU) activities take place:

  • before school;
  • at lunchtimes;
  • after school;
  • at weekends;
  • during school holidays.

How long do the activities last?

Each SCU course of activities lasts between 5 and 20 hours. However, a 5-hour course may be a full day or made up of ten 30-minute sessions.

Do I have to pay for the activities?

Signing up for a SCU Passport is free and many SCU activities will also be free. However, most external providers will make a charge for their activities, but they will make this clear to you before you join, and the costs will be kept as low as possible. If finance is the barrier to you accessing an activity we may be able to help you. Please see the collective opportunities page for more information.

What do I get for taking part?

Everyone who completes a SCU activity gets an official SCU certificate from their club leader. The course leader will give you a sticker for your SCU Passport if you have one. By earning more stickers, you’ll be rewarded with a Special Achievement Certificate at one of three grades. Remember that not all of your stickers can be from the same category of SCU activity for you to be presented with a Special Achievement Certificate (this encourages you to try activities you wouldn't normally consider doing. You might even find you’ve got a hidden talent!).

How do I know that SCU activities are safe?

All SCU activities follow strict guidelines on safety. Look at the Safety First page to find out more information.

How can I be sure that an activity saying it has SCU accreditation is legitimate?

Organisations that have SCU accreditation will be able to use the official Suffolk Children’s University logo on their promotional material and letters. If you’re still unsure, you can check on this website or get in touch with us using the contact details at the top of this page.
