The Government aims to have an Early Years Professional in every
full daycare setting by 2015 and in every children's centre by
2010.
What is an EYP?
Early Years Professionals (EYPs) work in a wide range of roles
in group settings such as nurseries and children's centres and as
home based child carers. They lead practice, support other
practitioners and are central to helping children develop from
birth until the age of five, a crucial time in a child's life.
Training:
Training to become an Early Years Professional (EYP) is open to
candidates with different backgrounds and qualifications. In order
to achieve EYPS you will have a degree qualification and GCSEs in
English and Mathematics at grade C or above (or equivalent).
Some training providers may offer GCSE equivalence tests for those
who do not have suitable qualifications.
How long will it take to gain EYP Status?
Training will take between 6 and 15 months, dependent on your
early years experience and level of qualification.
How much will it cost me?
For full time students the training is fully funded. For part
time students both training and support cover are fully funded, so
long as you are working in a private, voluntary or independent
early years foundation stage setting (age 0 -5).
