Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA)

CPA is the framework that Councils are judged by. It is a process of independent inspection by the national Audit Commission, who undertake an annual inspection on the performance and proven corporate capacity of every Council in England.

As well as looking at how well the Council delivers their services, it also considers how the Council is run as this will impact on how well they deliver their services in the future.

Following the most recent inspection we were rated as a council that is improving well and demonstrating 4 star overall performance. For more information on this please read our:

Annual Audit and Inspection Letter
In addition to CPA we also receive an annual report from our external auditors, which highlights good practice and areas for improvement. It looks at financial standing, systems of internal financial control, standards of financial conduct, legality of transactions, use of resources, performance information and our Best Value Performance Plan.
