The current Lord-Lieutenant of
Suffolk is Lord Tollemache, K.St.J., J.P.
Born in Norwich in December 1939, he lived during World War II with
his mother's family near Brancaster. His uncle, David Jamieson, won
a VC in Normandy serving with the Royal Norfolk Regiment. He moved
to Helmingham Hall in Suffolk in 1953, the home of the Tollemache
family since 1480. He was educated at Eton College and then became
commissioned in the Coldstream Guards, serving in Kenya, Oman,
Kuwait and Zanzibar.
He was at one time a Director of Tollemache & Cobbold
Breweries, and is a non-executive director of several companies. He
is an organic dairy farmer and an arable farmer and landowner. He
lives at Helmingham with his wife Alexandra and three grown-up
children. He is Patron, President or Chairman of a wide range of
voluntary, charitable and County organisations in Suffolk.
His interests include conservation and the environment and the
visual arts.
