Disability equality

On 4th December 2006, we launched our Disability Equality Scheme for 2006-09. This is the start of a rolling programme of real and significant changes that we must achieve with disabled people. Our brand image above sets out our values and principles relating to disability.

Involving disabled people leading to action in service delivery and staff care

Our Disability Equality Scheme sets out our commitments and the action we will take. We will not accept any form of discrimination, harassment or bullying, and will take every opportunity to promote disability equality. It will require a cultural change in the way that the organisation and its employees work to address the needs and aspirations of disabled people, both service users and staff.

See further down the page for our Disability Equality Scheme 2006-09 and reports from our first Disability Involvement Day in November 2006.

Over the next few months each part of the council will contribute to the Scheme, publishing Disability Action Plans setting out work areas over the next year.
