By road

From the South - use the A12. Note that coming from London you must join the A14 and cross the Orwell Bridge before exiting at Junction 58, rejoining the A12 again east of Ipswich.

From Cambridge and the Midlands - take the A14 and at Junction 43 exit onto the A143. Follow this road past Diss and in time join the A146 which is signposted for Lowestoft.

From Norwich and Great Yarmouth - follow the A47 and then the A12, which leads directly into Lowestoft.

By bus

A daily coach service is operated by National Express through to Lowestoft from London Victoria and most major UK cities. Visit Traveline and try out the Journey Planner, for information and timetables on all public transport including local connections.

By train

Lowestoft has its own railway station, connecting to Ipswich, London and also Cambridge (via Norwich). Visit the National Rail Enquiries web site for journey and timetable enquiries.

By sea

The nearest ferry port is at Harwich in Essex, which is approximately 80 miles (128km) or 1½ hours' driving time from Lowestoft.

There are harbours with mooring facilities facilities at Lowestoft and Southwold. The Royal Norfolk & Suffolk Yacht Club is at Lowestoft and in 1999 was awarded the coveted European Blue Flag Award. The RN&SY offers a warm welcome and use of its facilities to visiting yachtsmen and women. The Norfolk Broads National Park can be accessed via Lowestoft harbour.
