Community meals (Meals on Wheels)

Shepherd's pie mealProbably more traditionally known as ‘Meals on Wheels’, Suffolk County Council provides a meal service for people assessed as needing this support. The assessment is not based on a person’s age but ability to shop and prepare meals for themselves.

Fish in butter sauce mealCustomers can choose from a wide range of tasty and nutritionally balanced main meals and desserts.

They all meet the National Association of Care Catering’s Recommended Standards for Community Meals.

A wide range of meals are available, covering most dietary requirements, including:

  • Asian Halal/Vegetarian
  • Gujarati
  • Afro-Caribbean
  • Kosher
  • Traditional English
  • Vegetarian
  • Meals and desserts suitable for those with diabetes
  • Meals and desserts suitable for those with Coeliac Disorder
  • A range of meals for low sodium and low fat diets are also available.

How to apply for community meals

When you contact them, Enhanced Customer First will need the following information about the applicant:

  • the applicant's name
  • date of birth
  • address, including postcode
  • telephone number
  • next of kin details
  • details of their social worker, if applicable
  • details of their doctor (GP)
  • any dietary requirements, including food dislikes
  • preferred payment method
