Finding out about fostering in Suffolk

Today in Suffolk we have over 700 children in care, and simply not enough foster carers for all the children and young people who need them.

By becoming a carer for Suffolk County Council you could make a positive difference to the lives of a local child and their family.

Suffolk Fostering Service is responsible for providing foster care for all Suffolk children in care

Foster carers provide a stable family home to help children to develop and succeed.

What is fostering?

Fostering is family care for children and young people who cannot live with their own families for various reasons.

Fostered children may stay in touch with their own family and return to live with them. However, some need foster care for longer.

"Children and young people who are placed in foster care should experience it positively. A young person’s experience in foster care should contribute to their overall sense of well being. Suffolk County Council’s Fostering Service will work with our foster carers and the children in our care to help them achieve their full potential in a nurturing stable environment." Sue Lowndes, Head of Fostering
