These two articles, one by Anthony Douglas (PDF, 60Kb), the other describing the Beacon Council Scheme (PDF, 104Kb) describe the changes which have taken place in the nature of adoption over the years and the current challenges. Between them they give a good account of the background to current adoption practice.

The Hadley Centre for Adoption and Foster Care Studies has free online briefing papers on several key topics including placing siblings permanently, matching, placing sexually abused children and kinship placement.

The BAAF web site is a good first stop for new policy, practice and general information.  Subscribers to BAAF can access other useful data on the site including an online version of the Quarterly journal "Adoption and Fostering".  Suffolk's subscription allows County Council staff to access these resources.  Email John.Clifton@soc.serv.suffolkcc.gov.uk to find out how.
