Developing Innovative Services for Suffolk People
Housing is a Foundation of Community Care ... and also very
necessary for care leavers!! All people have the right to adequate
housing, but some people have care and/or support needs which must
be met if they are to live in their own homes.
Supported housing aims to meet these needs, at the same time as
acknowledging and respecting people's housing rights. It is quite
different to
residential care for older people.
In Suffolk a number of supported housing services have been
developed to meet these needs. These range from:
- 1 bedroom flats to shared housing
- visiting support to 24 hour waking services
- individual properties to group schemes.
- the care and/or support services are paid for by the tenant and
the County Council, and are provided by voluntary or private sector
providers or housing associations.
This section outlines how we work, the standards we expect in
supported housing, and gives some detail of the needs for new
services.
