Wamil Court is situated in Mildenhall Town. The Establishment
was purpose built and opened in 1969. It was built as a “
Unit/Small Group Living” Home, originally for 49 people.
In 1997 the home was refurbished providing now for 33 people of
either sex, with their own room with en-suite facilities. There are
four units which each has their own name.
Bracken and Forest are termed as mainstream units. The people who
live on these units have complex needs, for example isolation due
to poor physical and emotional health, people with arthritis or
Parkinson’s disease.
Aspen and Willow are special needs units, which are joined by a
link. People admitted to Aspen and Willow has a diagnosis of
dementia, made by a phychogeriatrician for an extra care placement.
The staffing on these units is higher than the mainstream.
Each week a list of social activities and entertainment is
displayed for all to engage if they wish. Activities and
leisure pursuits form part of our integral care package. There are
three activity carers who have a yearly business and action plan.
Each member of staff takes responsibility for ensuring that all the
service users are both encouraged and assisted to engage in social
activities and pursue their own particular hobby or pastime.
Each unit also has its own television, video recorder/player and
music centre. The function room has a large television, video
recorder/player and music system, karaoke machine and electric
organ. The room has the loop system available also. There are
also facilities for all the lounges to have the system put in
place. The home has a portable loop system should a service
user require this service.
Regular service user meetings are held in the function Room.
The agendas cover everything from the menus to the recruitment of
staff. Service users are encouraged to give feedback on the
service they receive and to put forward ideas of how they would
like to see things develop.
