The building and the units
Stradbroke Court is a purpose built Local Authority Home, which
opened in 1982 and underwent a major refurbishment in 2002.
All the bedrooms are single and have en suite facilities. The
Home is organised into 3 separate Units each with their own lounge,
dining room and bathroom with TV and music centre.
A Day Centre adjoins the Home and provides 35 places Monday –
Friday.
The area round the building with its gardens, woodland and
private spaces provide a restful setting.
The home has several courtyard gardens, which are accessible to
all residents and customers including those in wheelchairs.
Leisure interests
All activities offered at Stradbroke Court are optional and we
are open to suggestions from residents and their families. The Home
offers opportunities for residents to participate in a wide range
of activities and are encouraged to pursue their own particular
hobby or pastime. A hairdressing salon is located on site.
Religion
We respect and welcome diversity of culture and have a weekly
non-denominational Church Service, to which residents, relatives
and staff are welcome to attend if they wish. We endeavour to
provide access to other faith groups if required.
Therapists
Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Dieticians,
Physiotherapists etc., can be accessed for residents when
required. More every day therapies are provided, for example,
foot spas and aromatherapy.
Principles and values
We have regular reviews, residents meetings and yearly
appraisals for staff. This ensures we meet the principles of good
practise, maintaining each person’s rights for respect, privacy and
dignity. Each resident is an individual with their own likes,
dislikes, expectations and life-style. We will always ensure that
each resident's care plan reflects this.
Admission to the Home
Social Workers refer people in need of residential care to
Stradbroke Court. If you don't have a Social Worker, please contact
Customer First on 08456 023 023. Prior to admission a prospective
resident is invited to visit the Home to meet other residents and
members of staff as well as discuss their needs.
Family support
Residents, families and friends are supported and encouraged to
remain as much of a part of the resident’s life as they were
before. Staff believe that it is as important to build a
professional relationship with the relatives and friends as it is
with the resident. Relatives are welcomed as they would have
been by the person in their own home.
The Care Plan
This essential tool begins prior to admission. It records the
person’s needs and how they will be met at the Home. The
information gathered assists the team to provide a consistent,
comprehensive service delivered in the way the person needs and
wishes and are reviewed monthly.
Reviews of Service
Every resident has a review meeting after six-weeks. It is at
this meeting that the person decides if they wish to stay and that
the Home can meet their assessed needs. If the person decides to
stay they can then decide what personal items, including furniture,
they want to bring, and decide what they will do with their former
home. We regularly review people's care and hold six monthly
reviews.
