The home was purpose built and opened in 1974. In 2000 it underwent an extensive refurbishment.

The accommodation offers 30 single bedrooms with en-suite facilities. There are five units, each with it's own communal lounge, dining room and kitchen, bathing and laundry facilities.

The units:

Two’s Company offers 18 places for older people who require extra care because of their individual special needs arising from their dementia. 
Three of these places are for short-term care, two offer regular respite, one an emergency place.
The three units are linked by two corridors this offers a more spacious yet homely environment. Extra rooms include a garden room and conservatory. Two’s company is on the ground floor.
 
Pleasant View is for dementia care where the service users needs are still met on this smaller more intimate first floor unit.

Rooftops is the intermediate care unit. The purpose of the unit is to prevent hospital admission or to take a person from hospital where acute care is no longer required, to ensure s/he has time to build confidence and in some cases regain life skills in order to return home.

The trained staff teams ensure continuity of individualised care.

There are two large central communal rooms, a conservatory and a library/quiet area.  These rooms offer training and meeting facilities as well as being used regularly by the residents for celebrations, entertainment and a variety of activities.

The home offers a fully fitted hairdressing salon with  visiting hairdresser. A mobile telephone is available for use by the residents.  Private telephones can be connected in every room at an additional cost.
An emergency call system is accessible from every room.

There is an extensive choice of menu for the two main meals which are prepared in the establishment's large kitchen. There are regular programmes of activities, including church services and outings. The pleasant gardens are easily accessible by residents, but are secure and secluded for privacy and safety.

The home is situated in the east of Ipswich. There is a good public transport service to the establishment.  There is a local newsagent and grocer within walking distance. The Royal George Public house is almost directly opposite the home. Find the home just off the Colchester Road behind the fire station.
