Consumer Direct
Advice and support for
consumers in Suffolk is provided by Consumer Direct
(www.consumerdirect.gov.uk).
Consumer Direct is a telephone and online consumer advice service
which is supported by local authorities in the Eastern Region, and
by the Office of Fair Trading.
Consumer Direct provides clear, practical advice
to help consumers sort out problems and disagreements with
suppliers of goods and services. From overcharging to faulty
goods, and dodgy workmanship, to reporting dishonest traders and
scams, Consumer Direct's trained advisors are ready to offer
individual solutions for individual problems.
Consumer Direct works in partnership with Local
Authority Trading Standards Advice Services, providing first level
advice and information on a wide range of consumer problems. More
complex problems or complaints requiring further investigation or
assistance are then referred to Trading Standards or other advice
services.

Office of Fair Trading has worked in conjunction with retailers,
public sector organisations and trade associations, to create a
range of materials to explain the law and how it applies when
customers want to return goods.

Knock Knock Campaign
The Suffolk Safe and Sound group, which is made up
of Suffolk Police, Trading Standards, Fire and Rescue and Age UK,
have launched the "Knock Knock" campaign. The aim of the campaign
is to try and reduce distraction burglaries and make people more
aware of rogue traders.
In Suffolk there were 69 distraction burglaries in 2008, 73 in
2009 and 74 in 2010; the average age of the vicitm of a distraction
burglary is 78.
